Baltimore is a city of neighborhoods - nearly 300 - that have their own rich histories, cultures and relationships to the planning process.

Baltimore Department of Planning recognizes our need to build trust, improve community engagement and increase resident understanding of our role and resources.

Through the Planning Academy, we want to connect residents to Baltimore's Planning Department, to other resources in City government, and to each other.

You! Baltimore City residents who want to increase their understanding of urban planning in order to improve their communities.

We are seeking engaged community members to join our next cohort. You do not need a background in urban planning or development to participate - just enthusiasm, curiosity and interest!

We especially welcome and encourage applications from communities who have faced historic disinvestment in Baltimore.

We offer the Planning Academy workshop twice annually - Fall and Spring over a six week period.

Most recently, the program has been held virtually due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The core curriculum will cover in-depth the zoning and development process specific to Baltimore City.

Over six weeks, these workshops are lead by Planning Department staff, and complemented by other community partners.
